Some quick dinners!

When I read my post about motivating you to walk, I thought it was awful! I sounded so condescending (and I had to look up how to spell that word)! So sorry!

I am oh-so-far-from perfect! I was just trying to motivate anyone that reads my blog!

When I first attempted to workout, honestly, I could do 8 minutes tops! When I first attempted to run, I could go may 10 feet, if that!

I'm putting up a few pictures of some of my favorite Lean Cuisines. I don't eat them all them time, but they're good for a quick meal, and very low in calories!

One of my favorites (I love Indian food)

Another quick idea for dinner is to take a piece of foil, with a bit of olive oil on it, add a chicken breast or piece of fish. Then top it with some onions, veggies, whatever you like! Wrap it up tight, put it in a 350 degree oven for about 30 minutes, and you have a light and delicious meal! If you like, you can even brown it a bit before doing this!

Again, I am not perfect, but I do love to motivate others!

Thanks for stopping by! First, I want to know if you're taking my advice and have starting walking!? I hope so! The next step will be to get to a gym!

Speaking of the gym, my first product is self tanner. My advice: don't use it when it's raining, or you're going to be working out! I forgot I had applied the self tanner that morning, went to the gym, and of course, I did sweat! I didn't know, until I got home, that I had these lovely streaks of brown all over my arms! Funny, huh!!?

My second product is from Philosophy, a shower gel, called "Happy Birthday Beautiful!". If you sign up for the awards thing at http://www.sephora.com/ or just at the store, on your birthday you get a gift! This was my gift (in May). It's so nice to have the smell of cake in the morning! The cake smell does not stay on your skin, but the fragrance is there while you're showering! I also have a yummy chocolate version!

My 3rd product is Kerastase Mouse Substantive. There's a quick story behind this. My haircolorist used this on my hair and I loved it, so I was going to buy it while I was there, but they were out of it. Shortly after I arrived home, the receptionist called me, she had found a bottle of this wonderul mouse. So I dashed up there, bought it, and to my horror, this bottle cost of $30.00. I'm embarrassed to even say that! I should have just said "no thanks", but I didn't. The other part (that's kind of funny), is the bottle says "for mature hair", oh geez, thanks!

So there ya go! Good luck with your walking, running, or whatever you're doing to stay active!

Yes, I'm talking to you!

You're the one that knows you need to loose weight. You know you need to have a healthier diet. You know you should start working out.

But your negative side gives you all kinds of reasons not to start. You're too tired, you don't want to go to a gym, you don't have time to make healthy meals. Maybe you even have bad knees, but did you know swimming is easy on the joints!?

I'm your positive side, telling you that you CAN do it!

You're going to start tomorrow. You're going to take at least a 15 minute walk. I don't care where. You can just walk around your house.

The next day you'll take at least a 20 minute walk. I guarantee, after a week, you will have more energy!

I'm going to add some easy, healthy recipes to this blog soon, so keep watching.

I will be here for you, and I'll be pushing you more in the future!

Bumble & Bumble Hair Powder and L'Oreal Revitalift Cream Cleanser

I'll start with L'Oreal Revitalift Radiant Smoothing Cream Cleanser (with revitalizing vitamin C and gentle exfoliating action). I've gotten into the habit of using an exfoliating cleanser every morning. This one is my lastest to try, what I don't like is that it's too smooth feeling. My last exfoliating cleansers had a light "grit" feel, which made me at least think it was exfoliating! So I'll use this one up and try another one!

Do you have that week or so before your next haircolor when you wish your appointment was sooner!? I LOVE this product: Bumble and Bumble Hair Powder (I have brown). It was produced as a dry shampoo, but a small spray of this on your roots, and "poof!" those little hints of gray are gone! I bought this months ago, and there's still plenty in, since I only use it a few times a month! It seemed quite pricey, at about $30, but it's been well worth it!

Marking my calendar!

So I bought this magic potion yesterday! Just imagine me at the drug store, in my basket I have 1 large Fosters beer, a bottle of Riesling, a measuring tape, and my magic potion "Garnier Ultra-Lift Pro Gravity Defying Cream". The beer was an anniversary gift for my husband, our anniversary is today, 20 years, and all he gets is a can of beer (I'm not kidding, he loves that)! The wine's for me, I suddenly love Riesling, so I've been trying it different brands!

Back to the magic potion. The product claims that in 4 weeks, my neck and jowl will be tighter. I can't wait! All I see when I look in the mirror these days is loose skin and it's driving me nuts! The darn neck and jowl thing! I can't imagine that this is going to help, but I'm taking the chance! Cheaper than a face lift!

My other product, actually, my 18 year old daughter, Katherine purchased (okay, so it was with my money!). Neutrogena Age Shield Face Sunblock Lotion SPF 70. I'm so happy that she's protecting her skin now! When I was younger, there was no such thing as sunscreen! I did hear that even though we may already have sun damage, it's never to late to protect your skin, so I'm using this too!

I'll let you know what miracles happen with the Garnier product!!

My pretty pink nailpolish

I've been getting my nails done every 2-3 weeks with a fantastic manicurist named Juliette. I've actually been getting the shellac nails, which were working out great, until the last few times, not sure why.

But, Juliette has consistently gone out of her way to make this perfect for me! I had already emailed the salon about how wonderful she is, and they actually recognized her for my shout out to her!

Anyways, back to the nails. Juliette decided we should just go back to a regular manicure for awhile, and even lowered the price from their normal charge for a manicure! Not only that, she gave me the nail polish she used, so I would have it for touch-ups, and I can just bring it back when I come in in 2 weeks!

Katherine Found the Perfect Dress!

My daughter, Katherine, is a senior this year. I call her the professional formal dance girl! She goes to so many proms and homecomings! This is her senior year, and for her prom (the one at her school-she's going to others), she wanted a "poofy" princess dress!

We looked everywhere, but we just couldn't find it! She finally settled on a non-poofy dress from Nordstroms, which is gorgeous, but not exactly what she wanted it.

We've ordered from http://www.unique-vintage.com/ before and had good luck there! She found a poofy dress there, and decided to take a chance that it would fit and be perfect. It just arrived today!

Guess what!? It was made for Katherine! Absolutely gorgeous, and I'm so happy (so is she)!

This picture was taken in amongst my vintage mess of stuff, so ignore that, and the fact that Katherine had basically just woken up when I took this picture!

I can't wait to show pictures of the big day, with her hair all fixed up!

New Round Brush

I love my new round brush! I just bought it at one of my favorite stores, Target!

As I get older, my hair gets thinner, and needs as much lift as it can get! I've been letting it grow longer. This brush is great!

It's from Goody and it's called the "Ouchless Curling" Brush with Retractable Bristles. For me, the retractable button at the top was pretty pointless. It's hard enough to use just two hands to blow dry your hair with a brush, so to try to press the button at the top, well, that's just crazy!

A tip for keeping the curl/lift in after blow drying a section of your hair with the round brush, let it cool for a few seconds before releasing your hair.

The one I bought was the medium size. I also have a teenier size that I bought at my hair salon. That's great for just taking tiny sections of hair, just in a few spots for lift. Just make sure to cool it before releasing it, that is the best trick! Instant lift!

My brush was under $8.00!

Chanel No. 19

This has to be one of my all time favorite fragrances! Chanel No. 19! I had a bottle of this perfume quite a few years ago, and decided recently I had to have it again!

Purchased at http://www.nordstrom.com/ and described on their site as: "A legendary scent from 1971. A rich blend of green floral wood notes, jasmine, rose, iris, ylang ylang, sandalwood & mosses. Audacious, Assertive. Never conventional"

I love that description! And they described it quite well! It's not over-powering (unless you over do it!).

Perfect for any season!

It's a bit pricey, but well worth it!

Check your Feet

Sandal time is almost here!

I love summer time! I love the clothes and love wearing sandals!

I have a problem with icky cracked heels, especially my right one for some reason! I just got a pedicure about 3 weeks ago, so I thought that would help, but it was temporary. The crack is back!

My manicurist, Juliette (love that name) told me to get a foot scraper thingy. She wasn't trying to sell the one they had there, she actually told me to check out Sally Beauty Supple (love that store!). She said the ped-egg thing they sell at drug stores isn't good.

But I was at my salon a few days ago (finally got a french manicure, I've always wanted one!), and they had a deal on their scraper (okay they call it a foot file) and lotion set, so I bought it!

It's a miracle! My heels are much smoother!!

This one is called "Microplane Personal Care Foot File", for $21.95. The Microplane Personal Foot Care was usually $9.95, but the deal was $5.00 (woohoo!).

You could probably get something similiar to it at a less expensive price at Sally Beauty Supply, like Juliette said, but it was there and I wanted it so I just bought it!

So check your feet! I also do yoga, so need my feet to look nice all year round!

White Teeth

First of all, I hate my teeth! I had braces back in the 60's, but a guy named Dr Stifter! Should have been warned by that name to stay away! Whenever I tell a dentist I had braces, they're like "really!?".

I have teeth envy! I notice everyone's white, straight teeth! I recently talked with my dentist about teeth whitening, and was really ready to spend the $300 to get them white!

But, I had recently bought some Crest Whitestrips for my daughter, and saw such an improvement, that I decided to give it a try myself! I had bought Katherine a cheaper version of the one's I bought. I went for the $50 3D Whitestrips Advanced Seal.

The box says you'll start seeing results in just 3 days. They're right! My daughter said my teeth now look whiter than hers! I've only noticed a slight senstivity, but nothing bad, and it's temporary.

They're easy to use, and just 30 minutes/per day!

I'm glad I bought these and didn't spend $300 on the dentist's version!

Oh-and if anyone out there is an orthodontist and would like free advertising, please make my teeth pretty and I'll blog about it!

New Year's Resolutions

Yep, that's what I said! New Year's resolutions! Because right around now most people who had at least one New Year's resolution, have already given up!

Don't do it-don't give up! At our local rec center I see so many new faces at the beginning of the year. So eager and hopeful! But, right around now, crowds have dwindled. I wish I could go up to each and everyone one of them and say "keep going-don't give up!", but they probably wouldn't take to kindly to that!

So I'll just blog about it! Whatever you're New Year's resolution, keep it up! So what if you fell off the wagon for a bit, get back on and keep going!

You'll be proud of yourself, and when 2012 rolls around, you can start on a new resolution!

Beauty Products I love

"Jen, please tell us your beauty secrets!"

Okay, okay, here's a few of them!

Actually, two of these products will do basically the same thing for you. Both "The Present" by Philosophy, called Clear Makeup, and Smashbox Photofinish are perfect, in my opinion, for 2 reasons. The first, is for those that choose to go without makeup, but may need just that bit of evening out of the skintone. Both of these will work great for that. It actually makes the skin appear (and feel) smoother, and lines are less noticeable. The second, is for those that do choose to wear liquid makeup (like I do), it creates a better "palette" for your makeup. Try one of these products and I guarantee you'll love it!

My 2nd product was given to me as a gift by my sister, Susan. Yes, she's younger than me, she loves to tell people that. Isn't it funny how when you're younger, you're so proud to be the older sister, and then suddenly, it's not so cool!? Anyways, she gave me this jar called F.Y. Eye! Claims to be the "ultimate eye shadow base", by Benefit. I love it! This is another product perfect for both makeup wearers and non-makeup wearers. It will also even out your skin tone for that "natural" look, and your eyeshadow will stay on longer!

And last but not least, during the winter, my hair is crazy full of static! Wonder Wax Defining by Davines, is perfect for just such a problem. It seriously just takes a tiny bit to smooth the hair without flattening it. It's also good after you've styled your hair just to set everything in.

Haircolor Saga and More

I just bought this one at express! Bought a pink sweater to match!

Great basic black dress from Ann Taylor

I broke down. I tried coloring my own hair, but it just didn't work!

I found that after just 2 weeks, I saw those darn grays shining through! I'm not a math genius, but it was easy to see that spending what I was on the box color, and having to use it so often, really wasn't saving me that much.

So back I went for the professional color! Much better now!

I've decided to break up my hair cut and color into 2 different appointments to ease the shock of the cost!

That being said, I do want to stress that I am grateful that having a bad hair day is the worst of my problems!

Now onto a new subject-fashion! When I worked in an office I took great pride in the fact that I always looked my best! Now that I work at home, that really hasn't changed! I still love to look my best! Dresses are still my favorite outfit, and most days you'll find me in a dress, maybe with some cute leggings, or tights! Dresses are easy to wear, no need for matching pieces, and if you get the right dresses, they can be quite forgiving when you've eaten a few to many potato chips (my downfall).

I don't shop quite as often as I used to, but once in awhile I'll break down and buy a few new things. One of my favorite stores is Express! The store is really geared more for the 20-something women, but there are still quite enough pieces there that won't look ridiculous on us 40+ women! Just don't go for the short short skirts/dresses or the plunging neckline (cleavage doesn't look so cute after a certain age!). Their jeans fit me the best, and right now, they're the only ones I wear! I love that they have longer lengths, since I have trouble finding pants that are long enough for me!

I also love Ann Taylor! They've recently updated their line to get the attention of the 20-30 year old women. You'll find plenty of classics there. I love classics, but love a little flair added.

Like I've said before, you don't need a bunch of money to look pulled together. If you can only afford a few pieces, here's what you need:

1 basic black dress
1 piece of statement jewelry (I happen to love pearls-but a chunky bracelet, or hoop earrings, whatever you love)
1 pair of sexy boots or pumps
1 perfect fitting jeans (and comfortable too)
1 classic black blazer
1 white top (button down or even a cute simple t-shirt)
1 other accessory, such as a colorful scarf
1 pair of flats (try a brighter color like red)

Take these pieces and mix and match! Add a few pieces when you can-and there you have it, a classic collection, but with some flair!

Hair Color update

My last update was about coloring my own hair. I'm getting better at it!

I was so afraid the color would turn out weird, that I wasn't leaving it in long enough, and the darn grays would pop out within a week or two!

So this last time I left it on as long as the instructions said to, and I like it, and although it's only been a few days, I think it's going to be better!

But....I went to my hairdresser today, for a haircut, and while she's washing my hair she says "did you just color your hair", and I knew by her tone, she didn't like it (or maybe didn't like the fact that I was spending the million dollars that I was having her do it for me!). Well, she pointed out that I missed a good area in the front (because I was concentrating so much on the roots where the gray shows up the most).

I have bangs, so you can't really tell (and I hadn't even noticed it until she pointed it out). She had to make a few more comments about how coloring your own hair just isn't as good as having a professional do it.

And then I had to point out to her that, since my husband's been laid off for over a year, my idea of coloring my own hair right now is a good one!

I'm happy with it.

So there!

Next...I just might try "Best Cuts" for my next haircut! $50 for a haircut-yikes-!! I'm sure Best Cuts it's a lot cheaper!

It's Only Been Over a Month!

Whoops! Whatever have you done without my beauty updates!?

I hope your year has been great and you're looking forward to an even more fantastic year than this past year!

My lastest beauty "thing" is haircolor. Several years ago I attempted to color my own hair and it turned out so dark, and took so long to wash out, that I never tried that again.

Until recently.

The cost for coloring my hair at the salon every 6 weeks was just crazy. So I thought I'd give it a try again!

I started with a semi-permanent color. That way, if it was bad, it wouldn't take too long to wash out. It turned out great, except my gray showed up way too soon.

Part of the trouble is, I get too nervous and don't leave it in long enough.

My next try was a permanent hair color. For this one I tried Garnier Nutrisse (No 63-brown sugar, to be exact). This turned out great too, except I still didn't leave it in long enough, and darn those grays, back so soon!

I think I will try the same Garnier Nutrisse again and leave it in longer!

I'm also part of a panel to test something else (top secret, so I can give you any more info on this one-yet), so that should be interesting.

Speaking of panels-yes, I love to give my opinion, so I'm on several beauty panels, with well known companies. One I recently did, sent me a certain garment to test out for a month or two. I was to wear it wash it, and all of that, and then report back on it! It's fun-and I get free stuff!

I've also been known to give my "two cents" in the Life section of USA Today! Whenever they have a subject that they think I may have experience with, they will send me an email and ask me some questions! My name's been in there for a story on nutrition/kids, one on shopping for school clothes, and one on Christmas shopping for kids.

So--I will update you sooner (sooner than my last update) and let you know how the hair coloring goes!

I'm a Poor Sport and a Runner

First of all, I keep saying that I do not consider myself to be a runner. But I've been running for a few years and have been in several 5k's now. But the reason I say I do not consider myself a runner is due to the fact that I really just entered the 5k's to challenge myself...and..to win!

Yes, that's right! I never considered myself to be a competitive person either, but realizing that I was in an age bracket where I might have a chance of winning a silly medal, made me want it more!

So I guess I got lucky, because the first 3 5ks I ran in, I won for my "age category". Which really made me want to keep up with this!

Although I have improved in my time (just be seconds) on each of my runs, the last 3, I did not even place in the top 3. Grrrrrr.....why are these older women running? This is crazy!

So now I must practice more and get better!

All kidding aside, I just love the 5k runs! I go by myself (although one of my runner-brothers-or-amazing nephews are usually there! I love it! I love the challenge!

And I am ready for the next 5k!! Bring it on!

Challenge yourself. It helps keep you young! Just baby steps, that's fine...but just do it!

Testing Testing!

Hi there!

Welcome to my "beauty blog"! Sorry I haven't updated this in awhile! I just had the new OPI Axxium nail polish applied at Color Nation in Rocky River, Ohio.

So that's what I'm testing out right now. It supposedly last 2-3 weeks, but the 2nd day I already had a little chip, which Rachel touched up for me (but it still chipped the next day).

So far, going on over 1 week, there are a few other light chips on the edges, but they still look better than the normal manicure.

Basic Black Dress

I love it! Find one classic black dress and you have a million outfits~!

I don't care if you're 19 or 91....size 0 or size 20! You must have a basic black dress! If you are 19, well then go for an edgier, shorter style...and just a "tad" more conservative for us "mature" ladies!

This basic black dress happens to be from Ann Taylor and cost $148.00. I love the neckline on this one! You can actually take a sleeveless black dress and throw a classic white cotton shirt under it and have a more casual business look! Check out stores like H & M for great prices and a great selection!

I love pearls and I found this vintage set at a thrift shop!

Add some bright red shoes (yes these were so cheap at Charlotte Russe! Don't be afraid to step out of your regular shops! I honestly would have never even gone into this store if it wasn't for my teenage daughter! Now I love it! It's a great place to add inexpensive accessories! I also bought these red shoes in black! They have a chanel look to them with the gold chains! Add even more flair with a red belt!

I also love my sexy gray snake skin (not real silly) pumps from Ann Taylor!

We have a ton of nail polish

I didn't realize just how much nail polish we have at our house until I started cleaning out the bathroom!

Between my 17 year old daughter and I, we have quite a collection!

I've avoided buying any more nail polish (oh what took me so long!). The main reason isn't because I realized we had enough here, but because everytime I would buy a new nail polish I would realize I already have the same one here or it's so similiar! Yes, I am a bit conservative when it comes to nail polish.

Then there's my 17 year old daughter, Katherine, with all her fun colors! That is definitely not my style, but they look so cute on her!

I think the craziest I've gone with nail polish is a dark grape color (woohoo).

My Beauty Word of the Day - Slough!

I'm going to have a new segment on my blog called Beauty Word of the Day!! Today's word is slough! Yes, you heard me right, slough!

I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV, but I do know that we need to shed those icky old dead skin cells to have our skin glowing and youthful!

Keep an exfoliating facial cleanser in the shower so you'll remember to use it everyday. My favorite right now is Olay Regenerist Advanced Anti-Aging Cream Cleanser. Claim on the tube says "exfoliates to detoxify and speed cells' natural regeneration process"; I believe it!

Don't forget a body scrub too! I have bought some great handmade ones on http://www.etsy.com/ (I'll try to get the specific shop names if you want). Right now I'm using Softsoap Spa Radiant Body Wash. "Exfoliating with mineral sea salts". It smells great and I love the color (told you I wasn't a doctor).

Beauty really does start from the inside! You really can't shine without starting with giving yourself some time to enjoy the little things in life! I know we're all busy, but it really only takes 15 minutes to go outside and enjoy the beautiful blue sky!

I love to take my camera along. When I have my camera I seem to notice the little things I usually (and most of us) take for granted.

A rusty fence turns into beautiful art! So does a blue sky with a hint of a gorgeous tree full of still-summer-green leaves!

Enjoy a few minutes to yourself! Try yoga to relax, it certainly helps hyper-me!!

I know if you read any magazines, it seems the only women in the world are 20 something!

I 'm here to say that is not true!

I'm guessing there's more women out there, like me, that are not 20 something...perhaps even 20 something times 2!

My blog will focus on us!

Start with confidence! That's the basis for beauty! Feel good about who you are! That will radiate!

Be proud of your "wisdom" (that's what the call it when we get older), but we do get wiser, hopefully!

Beauty Sleep

I'm always tweeting about needing my beauty sleep, kind of as a joke, but it's true! I do love my almost 8 hours of sleep! Althought lately I guess it's probably been a little less (oh geez, now I realize why I look the way I look!).

When I was "working" I was definitely a stickler for getting my 8 hours of sleep!

Now that I'm "not working" (haha) I'm guessing I get a little less sleep, but geez...I'm pathetically happy!

I really shouldn't be!

I was laid off from a great job (at least on paper), in April of 2008.

That is when I started my first Etsy shop http://www.jenscloset.etsy.com/ (encouraged by my best friend-oh, she happens to be my daughter too!! Lindsey!

That was a perfect way to add a little extra income.

Wait...then, my husband was laid off from the same company--ouch!

So, now here we are, in our "offices" at home!! I'm in my living room office, and Bob is in his dining room office, and yes...we our next to each other, just about everyday, for ...well.. a lot of hours! I hadn't actually thought about that!

I actually asked Bob today, if I was annoying! If you check me on twitter, you might be able to tell I'm very active!! I don't think of it as hyper, but most probably would!! He actually answered rather quickly (which makes me suspicious) "no!".

Now I am trying to remember why I started this blog in the first place.

Oh-yeah, it was about getting your beauty sleep.

I'm tired. I work hard. I think most of us do. Some of us don't need to. Some of us need to but don't. Some of us don't need to, but do! Whatever! I'm not here to judge (but I will!).

Work your butt off while you can.

But enjoy life along the way. I really believe it's about balance!

I personally, have never been happier. This is coming from a person with an unknown future-an an unknown financial future.

But I know who I am and what I can do!

I will get my "beauty sleep" and persevere!!!

Okay, I just received some helpful info on getting my links to look more professional, thanks Deb!

But before I try that, the main reason I'm blogging today is to maybe, just maybe, help one person to get motivated to move!

I know there are a thousand excuses, believe me, I've been there, and even now I sometimes will get into an excuse rut, but push myself out of it asap!

If you've read my "tweets" you will see that I love to stay active! I am a member of our great city rec center and they offer a wonderful variety of classes and have good selection of workout equipment for the days I'm not taking a class!

In 1995 I finally quit smoking! It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be! Once I finally decided I had to quit (what took me so long?!), I quit cold turkey!

Soon after that I decided I should actually try to get active since my lungs were starting to heal and I was feel so much better!

I started with little baby steps! I seriously could only do about 8 minutes at a time (not kidding!). It was a gradual process.

Then I got the nerve to actually go to our rec center! Another time when there are a thousand excuses not to go! But when you really think about it, most people at the gym are feeling just like you-or at least they started that way! Think of it that way and you'll be fine!

So here I am now, working out at least 6 days a week for at least an hour a day. I know another excuse is time, so even if you can just run in place for 20 minutes at a time, whatever!! Do it!

I feel better than ever! Not only do I feel better physically, I feel better mentally! When I get in a slump and have no energy, I find my boost from a workout!

I think I'll save this post and then try the link thing!

Vintage

As you well now, I love antiques and vintage! I always have! When my daughter, Lindsey, suggested I join Etsy (she already had a jewelry shop there), it sounded perfect for me!

And it has been great! I'm having so much fun! Everything about having my shops is right up my alley!

I love the shopping (of course), the marketing and promoting, getting to know fellow vintage Etsy shop owners (great people and so helpful!), photography (that's been a big learning process, but it's become my favorite part of owning my shops!), oh, and I can't forget...wrapping the sold items! Okay-maybe that's my favorite part!

So where was I? Oh! I wanted to show you a couple of ideas on how to use vintage items. They don't have to be used for what they were originally intended for.

For example, the large Indiana Glass Co Milk Glass Teardrop Compote is perfect for pretty washcloths in your powder room! Of course, the brass dresser mirror is a good place to keep your favorite pearls! Also any pretty little vintage item like my cute little milk glass dish is perfect for storing cotton balls!

Oh-and that perfume-one of my favorites! It's Burberry-The Beat (I purchased it from Nordstroms)! It's not too overwhelming! For a lighter summer fragrance, you might also like Clean Warm Cotton (purchased at Sephora).

So hunt for some pretty vintage treasures and give them new life!

Since I just updated my other blog http://www.jensvintage.blogspot.com/ I thought I might as well pay some attention to my "beauty blog" too!

Okay, so it's summer (in case you didn't notice)! That means adding a little color to your pale skin! I've never gone to a tanning booth place (just seems creepy to lay in some hot lamp thing), and the only time I "lay out" in the sun is in August when we're in Cocoa Beach, Florida (yep-my husband loves Florida in August!). Even then I wear big hats (which embarrass my daughter) so I don't get that "barney rubble" look-anyone that's a bit older knows what I mean! You no longer get that pretty tanned face-just these big dark spots that look crazy! Haha just looked up "embarrass" to be sure I spelled it correctly, never noticed it actually ends with "ass", how appropriate!

See, you notice I don't focus well-I'm easily distracted. So what was I talking about? Oh-summer-and tans!

So, I try to remember to use sunscreen, especially when I know I will be out in the sun for a long period of time. What I use daily is Jergens Natural Glow. It's a great moisturizer and gives just a hint of color to your skin. Maybe once a week or so I will use L'Oreal's Sublime Bronze. That gives a pretty subtle color too!

So-there you have it! My summer beauty tips 101! More to come!!

I can't stand it!

Okay, I know I said I'd try some of my free Nordstrom products, but this PM "Tranquility" Go Smile "Luxury" Toothpaste tastes awful! I tried, I really did, but I cannot bear to use it any longer! It tastes like your brushing your teeth with perfume!

So that's it-if you think you would love to brush your teeth with perfume, go ahead and buy it!

I'm Getting Wiser, Right?

Please tell me I'm getting wiser! You know they say (who is they?) that we grow wiser as we grow older. I think "they" say that just to make us feel better about aging!

Keeping a sense of humor during these "growing wiser" years is so important! For example, last night at spin class (not yarn-the bike), before class actually started, I was up chatting with some of my fellow spinners, when my instructor, Brenda, said "Jenny, you're leaking". That was the perfect opportunity to tell her that this sort of thing happens as we get older, usually when we cough or jump. That got a good laugh, which is what I was hoping for. I knew she was actually talking about my cheap water bottle.

So I am not sure that I'm getting wiser, but I may be getting funnier! Or is it more funny? Oh geez, I'm definitely not getting wiser!

Okay, so where was I? Oh! I bought some perfume from Nordstrom. I bought one of my favorites, Philosophy Amazing Grace (if you don't like heavy perfume, you'll love this light clean fragrance) and "The Beat" by Burberry (I was in the Hue store-love that place, and the saleswoman was wearing this fragrance and I loved it).

Along with this came a cute blue makeup case full of fun free samples! My favorite is the "Very Hollywood" Michael Kors perfect-actually, it's the bottle that I think is so cute!

I received a ton of other stuff, the one I found most interesting was "Go Smile" Luxury Toothpaste! Really!? "Luxury Toothpaste"!!?

So, since I love to give my opinion I thought I'd start by picking two of the items I received and try them out and let you know what I think.

Of course I have to pick the "Luxury Toothpaste"...and let's see...what else should I try? Oh, this one sounds good... Bare Minerals "Flawless Definition" Mascara...I love flawless stuff!

So I will get back to you next week and let you know what I think of these two products and then I'll try a few more things from my new "bag of tricks"!

Wow! I didn't realize I hadn't updated my "beauty" blog since January! I sure hope you've been able survive without my beauty tips!

I've been meaning to write a blog about style for awhile now. What pushed me to finally do this is when I was at my hair salon today (Dante Lucci's in Rocky River, OH). I love going there just to see what everyone's wearing! I also have to give a lot of thought as to what I'm wearing too! Not to say this place is snooty and pretentious, even though it is an upscale salon, everyone is far from snooty and pretentious!

One of the girls at the front, Jen (no not me) has amazing style! She always looks glamorous! And she loves vintage! She can take a great vintage jacket, some inexpensive beads, and a vintage brooch, and turn it all into something so cute!

I just found out she's going to be featured in the Plain Dealer, next Wednesday, in the style section! I cannot wait to see it! She really deserves the recognition!

I'm lucky enough to have an entire room (we have a bedroom attached to our master bedroom, which was perfect as a nursery when the kids were babies) devoted to my clothes and shoes and accessories! I've always loved fashion! On one of my shelves I keep a picture (the one's shown here) of Audrey Hepburn and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. They seem to give me that eye of approval which I need!

I think I'll make this a continued "style series" since as I am writing this, I keep thinking of more things to say about style!

I have several "InStyle" books that I love! Most of them are at least a few years old now, but that doesn't matter. Classic pieces never go out of style.

I also believe you don't have to spend a lot to have style. You have to know yourself first of all. You don't want to copy anyone's style. A great way to figure out your style is to go through magazines. Rip out pics of things you love, whether it's a picture of a movie star, a pair of shoes, whatever. Start a scrap book. You'll start to really get an idea of what you like and can go from there.

I believe you don't have to have a closet full of clothes (but I do) to have style! A great pair of jeans, classic pumps, pearls (gotta have pearls), a nice blazer, a white cotton tshirt...to name a few. From the basics you can add more fun stuff, like scarves, vintage jewelry (always unique), a cute hat..you get the idea! Add a few of the latest trends, but I would definitely not spend a lot on those.

I happen to love the classic style of Audrey Hepburn and Jacqueline Kennedy. But I also admire the women that aren't afraid to push it to the limit a bit! You have to admit, Lady Gaga might just be another singer if it weren't for her special style!

So there you have it! My 1st of an ongoing style series!

I've Got 10 Minutes

Today I am using my timer method. I haven't done this in awhile, but I know I need to focus and this is the best method for me!

I put the timer on for 20 minutes, in that time I cannot go near the computer or anything related to either of my Etsy shops. You would be amazed at what you can get done in 20 minutes! I cleaned two bathrooms, put a load of wash on, folded towels, hung up coats that should have been hung up a few days ago, and more!

Timer goes off and I put it on for 10 minutes-a 10 minute break to do whatever I want! For this 10 minute break I decided I should update my "beauty blog"! I'm sure you've been waiting for my latest beauty tips...right!!?

Well here it is!

I kept seeing the commercial for the roll on makeup that was supposed to be like airbrush makeup! Eva Longoria is in the commercial, and I thought I'd give it a try and see if it would make me look like her! This is by L'Oreal and called "True Match Roller". I wasn't sure what color to get and decided on "neutral".

I also have shown the makeup I have used forever, Clinique "superbalanced makeup". I love this!

As far as the L'Oreal True Match Roller, I can't say I love it. I did not end up looking like Eva Longoria! Darn!! Also, the color I chose might be a bit dark for my skin and I didn't like the matte feel/look to this.

So I will stick with my tried-n-true Clinique makeup, which I can now buy at my favorite beauty store, Sephora! Sign up for one of their cards, it's free and you get cool stuff after you buy a certain amount!

So there you go-that used up my 10 minutes so it's back to work for me. I'm going to start thinking about what I'll do on my next 10 minute break!! This is fun!

I've always loved fashion, makeup, and all that girly stuff! (even though when I was a kid you'd usually find me in the creek catching frogs and tadpoles and crayfish-or up in the tallest tree I could find!).

I love fashion so much I strongly encouraged my daughter to puruse a fashion design degree-and that she did!! http://www.linques.typepad.com/ this is my daughter, Lindsey's blog-I am positive she got her talent from my Mom (it totally skipped me!)...and I'm so proud of her!

Anyways--back to me!! I love fashion, but more than that-style! Everyone has there own style...some just need a little more help!

I'm older than 26 (since Lindsey's 26 that makes sense) Although I can fit into the smaller sizes, I know there are just things I should not wear at "my age". But that does not mean I'm going to give up on style and fashion--no way!

I can go to Express-and skip the way-above-the-knee fashions and still find cute things for me without looking like I'm trying to look 20! I'm still alive and will be (hopefully) for quite awhile and I'm not going to give up on looking my best!

So I went shopping today (a little retail therapy never hurt anyone). I couldn't believe that Victoria Secret had jeans in their store! I bought the cutest Pink (not the color pink) skinny jeans (and that doesn't me you have to be "skinny" to wear them). I then went on to Express (the best customer service!) and bought to cute cute sweater dresses (one too short to wear as a dress-better w/ skinny jeans for me), and some other cute things-likes sweater vests! I made a little stop at Banana Republic (haven't been as impressed with their selection lately) I did find some great longer vests (great for mixing and matching) and a cute flirty skirt and a black ruffly knit top to go with that (this skirt is short-but still acceptable since I'll wear it with tights).

Check out my pictures and ignore dust and stuff you see. I said I like fashion, I didn't say I liked cleaning.

For us girls over 40- you can take classic pieces, add a little flare of your own! My favorite handbag is one that I call my "popular purse"! It's a bold yellow Jessica Simpson handbag and everywhere I go-women comment on it! Whether I'm at a school function or out shopping, I get comments! So instead of going with a wild color skinny pant (please don't)...make your handbag the bold statement!

I also have my favorite popular boots-I can't remember who makes them-and I know I'll need to break down and get new ones-but wherever I go-these too--get comments! From not only women but men too! I have skinny legs so it's hard to find ones that fit me-and the best ones for me are the ones that slip on!

My fashion rambling must stop-but I could go on-maybe I'll take a breather and ramble more tomorrow--my pictures aren't too great-but you "get the picture" (that was bad).

Be your best-and as my Mom always said (now there was a woman with style)...chin up-chest out-shoulders back!!

First, I will start by saying, I like Rachael Ray. I am a foodie, so I am watching the food channel, well...obsessively! As far as her show, I only watch it occasionally. But I had seen a commercial for her next show, which was to be about slowing down the little signs of aging. I am all for improving yourself. So I taped it, and tonight, I finally watched the show.

That's where the disturbing part starts.

I workout-everyday except my day off on Thursday. I eat semi-healthy. I believe in moderation, and it's okay to eat some chips no and then! (That's part of the reason I workout!)

I have a 26 yr old daughter, a 17 yr old son, and a 16 yr old daughter. Do the math. Even if I had my 26 yr old daughter at 20, that would make me 46, but that's beside the point of this of this blog, so I won't go there!

This certain Rachael Ray show was disturbing to me. I've wondered, now and then, if maybe I should have a little botox or something, but this show was just crazy! First, there was a women that had some injection in her hands because her hands showed signs of aging! I think the plastic surgeon said it would cost something like $1500/hand and would last about a year. I'm not sure about you, but for me, $3000 to make my hands look more youthful...well, it just aint' gonna cut it! I could just imagine saying to my husband "honey I need $3000 to make my hands look youthful"!

Oh, you say you earlobes are as youthful as you would like them to be!? Don't worry, there's surgery for that also! PLEASE!! I never even thought about earlobe problems! Am I crazy!?

No!! I am not (okay, that is debatable).

Take care of yourself. Workout, eat reasonably...then be happy with who you are. Don't pick at every body part. How long can you keep that up? And at what cost?

That show actually helped me to be happier with where I am right now, what I look like, and forget about any flaws. We all have flaws! We all age! It happens!

Be your best-not someone else's best! YOUR best!

Beauty Word of the Day!

Okay, I might not have a beauty word of the day everyday, but here's my beauty word for today:

Exfoliate! Whether you're 16 or 50+, exfoliate! Everyday, in the shower. Have your exfoliating wash in the shower so you won't forget to exfoliate!

For the face I recommend the two products shown: Philosophy's Microdelivery Exfoliating Wash, check it out at http://www.philosphy.com/ - I also buy it at http://www.sephora.com/ and http://www.qvc.com/ -

Another great exfoliating product for your face (it's my 16 year old daughter's favorite): Dove's Gentle Exfoliating Foaming Facial Cleanser. This can be purchased at any of your local drug stores!

And yet one more product that can be used with any of your favorite cleansing creams: exfoliating facial cleansing sponges! Inexpensive, and can be found anywhere!

So that's my word for the day-get rid of those darn old skin cells-and renew your face! I swear it helps! Oh--please do not forget your neck and decolete (pronounced dek-lo-tay-it's your chest area that starts showing signs of aging!).

So get out there and exfoliate!

Coming Out of the Closet

Cleaning out the closet--jenscloset!! Check out just a fraction of the clothes I have! I'm finally going to purge and organize! I started doing this awhile ago. I sold some of my clothes, that still had tags on them, on Ebay. I am constantly donating bags and bags of nice items to the Purple Hearts and a few other organizations.

I've always loved fashion and even to go get the mail, I try to make sure I look my best! Yes...some call me obsessed...even I do! Even though I do not work in an office (since 4/08), I still love to dress up-I don't mean I'm wearing my high heels around the house or to the post office (I'm not that obsessed!). I'm so obsessed that I produced a daughter who would grow up to go to college and get a fashion design degree!

This is going to be a series of blogs, starting with the one where I confess, not only my obsession, but what a mess it is, and how out of control it has gotten!

I spent a couple of hours going through one section of my closet (I'm talking about an entire bedroom that my sweet husband, Bob, turned into an entire walk-in closet for me!). I tried everything on-if it didn't look fabulous, it went into a pile. I will then go through that pile and sell some on Ebay and donate the rest. (If you're a size 4 and you're interested in some of my clothes-just let me know!)

So that's my first step-I'll get back to you soon with how my progress is going. I urge everyone to try on your clothes-check them out-do they really make you feel good? make you feel confident? no?? well..then, what are you waiting for! Join me!

A Great Beauty Info Site

Sorry it's been awhile! Been busy with summer stuff, including our annual trip to Cocoa Beach, Florida! I used plenty of sunscreen and always wore a hat to get as little sun on my face as possible!

I thought I'd do a quick blog to tell you about a great website full of beauty information, for all ages! http://www.totalbeauty.com/ -I just received their must recent update about ways to prevent and/or slow down that darn aging process that happens to us all!

I jotted down a few notes, such as

1-drinking green tea is good (I think we all know that by now!).

2-Vitamin D3 oil

3-exfoliate (I do that everyday!)

4-less is more as far as makeup as we get a little older

5-RetinaA seems to be a must-so I need to check on that

Clothes and Bags and Stuff

You heard me right! Clothes, bags and stuff! I love all of it!

My younger daughter, Katherine, just returned home from Europe! I'm so happy she's back! We went shopping at H & M earlier today and just had so much fun! Yes...we bought stuff!!

So-yes I do love H & M, but I try to avoid clothing stores these days! I have enough clothes and since I'm working from home now, I don't need anymore! But that doesn't always stop me! Especially when I'm shopping with Katherine, or my older daughter, Lindsey!

I have a few (okay I have more than a few) fav websites that I have bought from that I just love and I wanted to share a few. I'll share more in another blog!

The first is www.shopsueyboutique.com great bags-and other accessories! I've bought a few of their bags, and right now they're offering me 20% so that might just tempt me to buy another one!

Another site, actually, I haven't bought directly from the site, because we have a cute shop close by, is www.francescascollections.com . I love wearing dresses, casual tshirt dresses, cute knit dress, whatever! They're comfortable and everyone looks good in them! This can be a kind-of-youth-oriented shop, but I have found cute dresses that are "appropriate" for even my age! Their prices are great and everything is just so darn cute!

It's Thursday!

Thursday has always been my favorite day of the week! Well, at least going back about 5 years! The one reason was because at my previous part time job I worked Monday through Thursday (7 am to 1:00-or something like that-it's been over a year and I can't remember exactly!). So Thursday was like my Friday!

But the best reason of all...it's "treat day"! What is treat day you ask!? You are asking, aren't you!? Treat day is the day my husband Bob brings home some wonderful, perhaps fattening, lunch! It could be those so-bad-for you Big Macs from McDonalds...or from a wonderful deli called Lehmans for a turkey sub..and the list goes on and on! It's always a surprise and I sure look forward to it!

Everyone needs a treat day! It doesn't mean you need to look forward to something fattening like I do! But whatever the treat might be, treat yourself! Perhaps your treat day could be that one day you get to leave the house for an hour and just hang out at your fav book store (if you have young kids you know it's quite a treat to get an hour to yourself!).

Find something to look forward to, and you'll be motivated to keep going on those days that you just wonder what the heck you're doing, and why the heck you're doing it! We all have those days! So look forward to your treat day!

Write down some little things you've been meaning to do; pick one of those each week, and do it! Just do it!

You'll feel refreshed trust me!

Bumpy Roads and Detours

It seems as if the past few days/weeks of traveling around on bumpy roads and detours has made me think...and that's quite an accomplishment in itself!

So you're driving along on what seems to be a pretty smooth road and all of a sudden there's a crater-or maybe it's just a small bump, but you want to avoid it. Sometimes you panic! Or how about those annoying detour signs..or road closed!?

You usually make it through these obstacles, don't you?

These days all I think about when I encounter these "obstacles" is my life in the past year plus! I...like so many others, no- I'll change that...like everyone in the world...have come up against obstacles in our way. Or are they obstacles? Perhaps they're hints that you should be changing direction! Have you ever thought about that!?

I changed directions over a year ago...very scary..and bumpy..and lots of detours and "caution" signs! But I went over the bumpy parts and ignored the caution signs.

You can too! Oh heck....if I can do it, anyone can! I've grown more in the last year than I ever have! I'm proud of where I'm at and how I got there! It's been a learning process; mostly self taught, but I've had help, and it's okay to ask for help!

Once you start following your true passion you will realize it was there all the time! I think back to when I was just a little kid going through my great Aunt Esthers's 250 yr old home in Rye, NH, and how I loved that home! I loved the old attic and all the great things I found there! That was the start for me!

I've taken so many detours...but I've ended up where I should be and it feels great!

Think about it next time you're driving! Get through the detours!

Is it time for an attitude adjustment!?

Do things seem to be going in the wrong direction for you? I've been there, and there are days, even now, I wonder! But then...there's a new day and things work out!

If you would have told me on the exact date, February 14th, 2008 (yes, Valentines Day), when the "lady" eating a cupcake, from some corporate office (and didn't even know me), called me in to tell me they were laying me off (from an office job I had off & on for approx 25+ yrs), along with 2 other girls in the office..that it would be the best thing that could have happened to me I would have...well, I'm not sure what I would have done to you!

But who's looking back!!? I am!! Because I'm proud of the changes I've made! Of course...I was mad, and sad, and angry, all of that! But how long can you hang onto all of that!? For me, I needed to move on as quickly as possible!

I'm not just referring to starting my Etsy shops (shameless plug http://www.jenscloset.etsy.com/ and http://www.mymilkglassshop.etsy.com/ ). I'm talking about they way I thought about myself and what I wanted for my future. I knew it was time to turn things around-think positive! I'm hear to tell you that if I can change...anyone can!

It wasn't easy, but it was worth it! It will be worth it for you, too, I promise! Whatever your situation...it can be turned around!

I would love to hear any inspirational stories from you or, perhaps, if you are struggling with a problem, small or major, I would love to try to help you too!

This blog was kind of my "beauty" blog...and no matter how much makeup you use, if you don't feel good inside...it will show on the outside; that's why I thought I would write this here.

Oh My Gosh I Look Twenty Years Younger!

This is my daughter Lindsey!

Okay, good...I got your attention! No, I do not really look twenty years younger from all of the "magic potions" I use!

What I look like is me, the best I can be! I'm not going to look like a cover girl, or a twenty year old...just me! All these darn magazines with the touch-up photos...probably 80% or more, of those photos are retouched...so stop putting yourself down!

It's not just the outer beauty that makes you radiant! It's the look you have because you're happy, because you love "just being a Mom"..."just being a Mom" is the best thing you can be doing!! It pays off in more ways than you can imagine!

But...to be the best Mom you can be, you do need to put yourself first! You need to take sometime out of the week that is your time! Whether it is to shop, or workout, whatever...do it!! You'll be happy, which means your kids will be happier, and...your husband will be happier!

Try it--just once, take some time for yourself!

Believe me, I did not always do that! I thought to be the best Mom, meant to devote all of your time to your children! It wasn't until a few years ago, well, I guess it's been more than a few years ago, that I started working out! That all started because I was getting extremely fatiqued all the time! I went to the doctor, had all kinds of tests...they couldn't find anything wrong with me...so they called it "chronic fatique syndrome"...and guess what they prescribe for that? Give up!? an anti-depressant, of course! So...I tried it.paxil..for about a wk or two...crazy weird dreams and that was it for me! No more pills!

When I started working out, I could literally do 8 minutes-I would put the timer on and do 8 minutes! Now I work out for about an hour a day/6 days per week and feel better than I ever have....physically and emotionally!

Okay-this is not a nagging blog about how you must workout-I'm just telling my story-and I hope to motivate just one person who's feeling down!!

Especially if you're a Mom--do it for yourself and your kids!!

My Philosophy Collection

I really didn't realize I had such a collection of Philosophy products until I started gathering them up to take pics of it for my blog! I have more than this too!

I think my first Philosophy purchase was their fragrance. I probably purchased "Grace" first. All of their fragrances are light and clean. There's also Baby Grace, Falling in Love, and several others that I can't think of at the moment! You don't have to worry about it being overpowering and I'm always getting compliments on how nice I smell!

I purchased soap that smells just like the Baby Grace scent from http://www.bellagracedesigns.etsy.com/ not only does she have beautiful soaps, but the fragrance was a perfect match!

My must-have, at least twice a day...is Purity! That's the facial cleanser, and I love it! I also exfoliate my face and neck once a day (in the shower) using Philosophy's microdelivery exfoliating wash or Olay Regernist daily thermal mini-peel.

I actually have their gentle shampoo and conditioner too! I love their facial moisturizers, that include a sunscreen.

Velcro Rollers Are Your Friend

Need a little lift? Does your hair seem to be limp?

All you need to do is blow dry your hair until it's just about dry, it doesn't have to be completely dry, you just don't want it to be wet!

After I'm done drying my hair, I just take some of the larger rollers for the crown of my head, and one section in the back, and two on the sides, go about doing whatever else I need to do in the morning, and in about 10 minutes, gently take them out...and you have poof! Don't worry if it looks to "poofy", just brush it lightly and it will all blend in and look marvelous!

Velcro rollers also work great if you want a little more curl! I have these great curlers in several different sizes, they're inexpensive, and last forever!

So even if you're rushing around in the morning, it takes seconds to put these in your hair!

It's Saturday and it's May already...those are two good things!

First, thanks for entering my poll! I'm interested in the ages of everyone that visits my blog! I think this blog can be helpful to women of all ages! I believe that women in their 20's have the advantage of knowledge, regarding skin care, that wasn't available when I was younger. If you start now (no, I won't preach) to limit how much time you spend in the sun, and use lots of sunscreen, you'll be happy you did in 20 years!

I do think tan people look healthier. I know it's crazy, but it's true! The best way to get that "healthy" tan...is the fake stuff! There are plenty of choices out there! No more "QT" (only women over a certain age will remember that!). No more worry about having an orange tan! There are products out there that give a more subtle tan.

Right now I'm using a self tanner by Hawaiian Tropic and I like it! It's not a real pronounced tan, it's very subtle, and that is what I personally prefer!

Enjoy the sun...use your sunscreen and have a fabulous spring and summer season!

Happy Hump Day!!

Yes!! It's Wednesday...that means we got through Monday and Tuesday!

I actually don't mind Monday's at all! To me...they're like a day of hope, a new beginning! The day to start things fresh again and think of the possibilities for the week.

Depending on how "hopeful-Monday" went, Tuesday can be "terrific-Tuesday" or "terrifying-Tuesday"! Maybe Monday didn't go as well as you had hoped it would go! Or, on the other hand, Monday was fantastic, so when Tuesday rolls around, you're ready to tackle anything!

Wednesday...smack-dab in the middle of the week!! Wednesday means "you're almost there"! It means "keep going", you are going to make it! Make the best of Wednesday, especially if Monday and Tuesday weren't all you had hoped they'd be! You're on an upward climb!

Thursday is just around the corner! Thursday is an often ignored day of the week, just like I will kind of ignore it in this blog post!

So what's the best day of the week!? I think it's Friday, and I am betting most of you will agree! Friday is the end of the work week. If you're in an office, it's usually "casual Friday" (which can be scary in itself). It means the weekend is just about here..and it's time to party!

What am I trying to say!? Enjoy everyday...don't just wait for Friday! Make everyday count and you'll start looking forward to Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday!

Now get out there and rule your world!!

Zero Gravity!

Don't you just love the names of some of these beauty products that promise amazing results!?

I'm trying out a new product from Clinique, called Zero Gravity Repairwear Lift! Wow! Sounds like I should have miraculous results from this, right!!?

This product was pretty expensive, and I'm old enough...wait...I mean WISE enough to know that most of these products are not miracle creams!

At a certain age, things just start falling! Surgery could be an answer for some of it, but that's expensive and too painful to even think about for me! I haven't gone the route of botox or juviderm (yet) either, but I do have friends that have done this and it seems to work! That's pretty costly also and requires upkeep.

I'll start with simpler products, for now and let you know what I think in a couple of weeks!

Got Brow?!

Noticing a loss of hair some places....like brows! Keep them tweezed and well shaped. Brows help to frame your face! I love my Laura Geller Brow Marker! I actually bought mine from QVC, and loved it so much, I bought my daughter one. It's not as harsh looking as those old brow pencils.

Just a few light strokes and really...you'll notice a difference. If I can only use a few products for the day, my Laura Geller Brow Marker would definitely be on the top of my list!

Okay, Okay, I'll Give You Some Beauty Secrets

Yes! You have been begging for my beauty secrets! I am ready to divulge just a few to start! These are inexpensive products that everyone can afford. Yes, one of them is olive oil! Do you ever buy a product that is supposed to be good for your nails and cuticles? I'm sure it's a great product, but if you just dab some extra virgin olive oil on a cotton pad and dab that on your nail bed and surrounding area, and continue this treatment for just a week, you will see a difference!

Vitamin E oil..under $4.00 at your local drugstore, I used it after my shower; for my hands, for my neck, under eyes, and lips, whatever!

Now, although my blog is 40 and fabulous, it is for everyone! Whether you are 20, 30, 40, etc., I think we all need some new ideas! If you are 20, you're lucky! There are a lot more products out there to help you to slow down the aging process!

I'm ready to get started!

I started this blog awhile ago, but I really haven't done anything with it. I wasn't sure exactly how I wanted to go with this. I knew that, for me, after I hit around 45...things really started to change. If you're over 45, you'll understand!

I have decided this will be a place for us to vent, to laugh (at ourselves!), and to give each other ideas to help us through all of our changes, and make it a positive experience (not much we can do about it anyways, so we might as well laugh!).

I am part of a panel that receive samples of new products to try out and then critique the product (for a beauty magazine). I'm going to start with the latest product I received. It is a mascara called Exceptionnel De Chanel (yes, it's Chanel). Save your money...this was clumpy and flaky. The good news is...the old standby, Maybelline Great Lash.the Blackest Black Mascara, is wonderful, and inexpensive. If you haven't tried it, try it; just don't use too much mascara. Over the age of 4o--ish, it is better to go lighter with all of your makeup. We actually age ourselves when we add too much!

So...I'm open for business and open for discussions! Let me know your questions, problems, great ideas, your funny stories!

We still have a lot of life left in us! Let's make the best of it!
